Officer Joseph Johnson was shot and killed in Nyssa, Oregon on April 15, 2023, while responding to a concerned call of a man vandalizing property shortly after 8:30PM MST. T
Officer Johnson shortly pursued the man shortly after making contact with the suspect who is known as Rene Castro, 36. After a short pursuit, Castro stopped the vehicle he was driving, stepped out and fired at Officers. Officer Johnson didn't have the chance to return fire. As of April 16, 2023, Rene Castro, 36 is still at large.
Officer Johnson was 43 and leaves behind a wife and two children.
